Prayers

Faithful God, your trust takes us by surprise! You sent Jesus to us, and, by the gift of his life, you place within our reach the beauty of a communion with you. More still, you ask us to reflect his life and so to become creators of reconciliation wherever it is that you place us in the human family, as a leaven of peace in you.

God, you who love us, you never want sadness or affliction for anyone. When life weighs heavy upon us, we would like to remember Jesus's words, "I will not leave you orphans; I will come to you." Then the fire of his presence begins to shine in our hearts, and the praise of his love becomes our song.

Jesus, gentle and humble of heart, you do not force yourself on anyone. But when you ask us as you asked your friends, "For you, who am I?" we would like to answer with Peter: "You are the one who loves me, the one who shows me by everything that you are who God is; yes, you are the Christ, the Son of the living God." With all God's people, we give you thanks for all the women and men who, since the time of Peter and Paul, have borne witness to your love. May your praise never cease to be on our lips!
